The head of Samsung is under arrest for his role in the South Korea's political corruption scandal. Lee Jae-yong, 48, was taken into custody Thursday at the Seoul Detention Center where he had been awaiting the court's decision.

Lee is vice chairman of Samsung Electronics and heir to South Korea's biggest corporation. Prosecutors claim Lee pledged tens of millions of dollars to gain political favor with South Korea President Park and secure government backing of a merger deal.

Park was impeached in December and has been striped of her power.
