Maximum Security's Owner Issues $5 Million Challenge To Four Rival Horses

Kentucky Derby

Gary West still believes that Maximum Security was the best horse in the Kentucky Derby and issued to a challenge to four other horses to back up his claim. West released a statement challenging Country House, War of Will, Long Range Toddy, and Bodexpress to face Maximum Security in any race between now and January 1st.

If Maximum Security beats the horses, their owners will owe West $5 million, but if they manage to finish ahead of the three-year-old thoroughbred, he will pay them $5 million.

"Most experts agree that Maximum Security was the best horse in the Kentucky Derby. I don't care to discuss the controversy surrounding the events of the race and the disqualification of my horse at this time, but I firmly believe I have the best 3-year-old in the country and I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is."

Maximum Security crossed the finish line of the Kentucky Derby with a length-and-a-half lead over long-shot Country House but was disqualified after officials determined the thoroughbred impeded the path of other horses during the sloppy race.

Wests' appeal of the decision was denied, and he has filed a lawsuit to have Maximum Security restored as the winner of the race.
