Nine-Year-Old Girl Killed While Hunting After Being Mistaken For Deer

A nine-year-old girl and her father were shot and killed while hunting in South Carolina after being mistaken for deer. Kim Drawdy, 30, and his 9-year-old daughter, Lauren, were hunting in the woods near their Walterboro home with two other people on New Year's Day.

They were driving a group of deer, which is when hunters walk toward the animals to move them, when shots rang out. Drawdy and his daughter were both struck and died from their injuries.

The girl's family said she loved hunting with her father and shot her first deer just a few weeks ago.

“Lauren was with her daddy. She went hunting with him all the time. She was right there. If he went anywhere, she was right there,” Benny Drawdy told WCIV-TV.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources called the shooting a tragic accident but did not provide details about what happened. They have not released the identity of who fired the shots, and it is unclear if they will face charges.
