A person was killed after getting sucked into a plane's engine at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on Wednesday (May 29). KLM Royal Dutch Airlines that Flight KL1341 was preparing to take off for Billund, Denmark, when the incident occurred.

The plane was a twin-engine Embraer ERJ-190, which can hold up to 100 passengers and is used for short flights within Europe.

Officials have not identified the person or said if they were a passenger or an airport employee. It is unclear how the person ended up in the engine.

An airport employee told De Telegraaf that the person entered the engine after the flight crew had finished giving passengers the pre-flight safety briefing. They described hearing a "hellish noise" as smoke poured from the engine.

After the incident, all of the passengers were disembarked from the plane.

"We are currently taking care of the passengers and employees who witnessed the incident at Schiphol. The circumstances are currently under investigation," KLM said in a statement.

This is the second incident this year. In January, a man was killed after he climbed into the engine of a plane while it was being deiced at Salt Lake City International Airport.
