The New York Jets will reportedly start veteran Tyrod Taylor over Justin Fields for their Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on Monday (November 17).
"The Jets are making a quarterback change, benching Justin Fields in favor of veteran Tyrod Taylor, per source. New York faces Baltimore in Week 12 and ranks last in the league in passing yards per game," Russini wrote on her X account.
Taylor was reported to be dealing with an injury last month when team owner Woody Johnson publicly criticized Fields during the NFL fall meeting in New York.
"It's hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that he's got. I mean, he has ability, but something just is not jiving. ... You have to play consistently at that position, and that's what we're going to try to do for the remainder of the season," Johnson said while defending first-year head coach Aaron Glenn via ESPN.
Fields, 26, has gone 2-7 in nine starts for the Jets, throwing for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception on 128 of 204 passing, while also recording 383 yards and four touchdowns on 71 rushing attempts. Taylor, 36, has a 28-29-1 record as a starter during his 15-year career, which includes stints with seven NFL teams.
