Make every day a mental health day!

We know that the pandemic has taken a toll on all of us. As many as 1 in 5 people is struggling with a mental health issue. What can we do for each other? This special iHeart Communities podcast episode features the experts of Hartford HealthCare’s Behavioral Health Network and the Institute of Living.

Together, we can make sure no one is embarrassed to talk about mental health. We are all in this together!

Renee joined by Dr. Hank Schwartz, Psychiatrist in Chief Emeritus at Institute of Living/Hartford Healthcare, Dr. Javeed Sukhera is the current Chair of Psychiatry at Hartford Hospital’s Institute of Living under the Hartford Healthcare Behavioral Health Network, and Rebecca Stewart, Vice President of Content Strategy for Hartford HealthCare.  

They discuss the wave of mental illness we have been seeing since the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020. As many as 1 in 5 adults in the United States will experience a mental health condition each year. In addition, 46% of Americans will meet the criteria for a diagnosable mental health condition at some point in their lifetime- possibly more during the pandemic.

The Institute of Living is one of the first mental health centers in the United States and the first hospital of any kind in Connecticut. Admitting its first patient in 1824, the new hospital also marked a revolutionary shift in mental health treatment, emphasizing humane care and finding cures rather than confinement. Today, the Institute of Living remains at the forefront of behavioral health, offering patients hope for recovery through comprehensive care, research, education, and the expertise of the best clinical minds in the fields of behavioral, psychiatric, and addiction disorders.

The Institute of Living remains at the forefront of behavioral health, offering patients hope for recovery through comprehensive care, research, education, and the expertise of the best clinical minds in behavioral, psychiatric, and addiction disorders. The 2022 Black & Red will kick off a two-year celebration in honor of the Institute of Living's bicentennial. Funds raised will support the Institute of Living's continuing innovative work easing the burden of mental illnesses and substance use disorders on individuals, families, and communities.

The Institute of Living is celebrating its 200th anniversary! The 2022 Black & Red ReImagined will be held Sunday, June 5, under the tent at the Farmington Polo Club!

Join us as we celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Institute of Living and raise funds to continue the mission of making every day a mental health day!
