Center for Advanced Reproductive Services

A conversation about the need for egg donors with Dr Kim Crone of the Center for Reproductive Services.

Egg donors are needed for women who are unable to use their own eggs to have a baby, or for those in circumstances where surrogates are required, egg donors provide them with the possibility to become pregnant and start a family using donated eggs.

•Who makes for a good egg donor and why?

Women between 21-32, know the medical history of both biological parents, have a current BMI <30, are a non-smoker with no history of recreational drug use. Most importantly, have a strong desire to help others. Many egg donors are currently pursuing their own educational and career goals.

• Why young women might consider becoming an egg donor?

The overwhelming majority of women who donate eggs do so to ease the struggle of women who are infertile due to ovarian failure or cancer treatments. Many have a close friend or family members who has experienced infertility and wish to prevent others from going through the same emotionally draining experience. Many others donate to help those who simply cannot start a family of their own.
