Is it time for Father Christmas to have a gender-neutral makeover?

As if we needed any more reminders that a vocal minority of the population abhors tradition and traditional values, a recent survey has been heralded as a takedown of Santa Claus' gender. Yes, they're upset about Santa's gender. We'll start there in one minute.

Logo-making company GraphicSprings surveyed 400 people across the U.S. and U.K, between ages 18 and 65+, "asking them how they would 'rebrand' or modernize the jolly fellow," then a further 4,000 people were surveyed on broader questions.

According to the survey:

About 23 percent of respondents think Santa should have an iPhone, while 25 percent said Saint Nicholas should wear sneakers or trainers. Eighteen percent said he should be 'more hipster,' while 22 percent said he should ditch the sleigh and reindeer for a flying car.

And here's the real kicker: 17% of respondents believe that Santa should be gender neutral, while 10% think that Santa should change genders entirely.

By all accounts the survey seems like a joke, or rather, the people who were surveyed seem to have treated it like it was a joke.

By all accounts the survey seems like a joke, or rather, the people who were surveyed seem to have treated it like it was a joke, unless 25% of the population really believe that Santa should become vegan. Highly doubtful. Also, roughly 70% of the people surveyed were men, while a whopping 15% to 18% classified themselves as "gender neutral," which, it goes without saying, is completely disproportionate to the actual percentage of both communities in the actual population. It also seems dubious that the percentage of people who believe that Santa should be gender neutral matches the percentage of surveyed people claiming "gender neutral" status.

Although, if this thing is for real, we've got a strange future ahead of us, and that seems more likely by the day.
